VOR Comments to ACL Proposal Supporting Family Caregivers
VOR has submitted comments to the Administration for Community Living (ACL) on its proposal supporting family caregivers.
The ACL's proposal would increase funding for family caregivers, enabling parents and siblings to be paid for looking after their loved ones with I/DD. Though probably spurred by need, due to the shortage of direct support professionals, VOR supports programs that promote choice by families to determine the best care for their loved ones with I/DD and autism throughout the course of their lives.
We have suggested that the ACL consider improving its plans by modeling their program after the successful caregivers programs offered by the Office of Veterans Affairs. (Special thanks to VOR's Jacquelyne Kancir for her insights and advice on these comments)
